Our primary concern is you. Please follow the guidelines below to keep your family safe:

  • Be alert for propane odor in areas where propane is used. Even a faint odor may indicate a hazardous situation.
  • To ensure your safety, only a qualified technician should light your pilot lights. If you choose to light your own pilots, follow the manufacturer's instructions. Before lighting a propane gas appliance, sniff around the area at floor level. If you smell gas, do not light the appliance.
  • Keep combustible products, like gasoline, kerosene, or cleaners in a separate room from propane appliances. An even better option would be to store combustible products outside.
  • Have your propane system and appliances inspected periodically by a qualified service technician. The Propane Education and Research Council recommends annual checks.
  • Never disconnect your gas line to remove air. This process will release gas and may lead to serious injury or death.
  • Stay out of areas where you suspect a gas leak. If you're in such an area, leave immediately.
  • Never alter, change, or tamper with appliance controls. Contact a qualified technician if controls malfunction or are hard to operate.
  • Allow only qualified technicians to service your appliances or gas system.
  • Repeated pilot outages could indicate a hazardous condition. Call Offen Petroleum to check the system and relight the pilot rather than doing it yourself.
  • Improperly vented or defective appliances can cause potentially fatal carbon monoxide poisoning. Have your vent system checked periodically by a qualified technician.
  • Do not operate or install any gas appliance without carefully reading all of the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Do not store propane cylinders inside your home or other buildings.
  • When you move to a new location, make sure a qualified technician inspects your entire gas system before the gas is turned on. This inspection includes checking improperly installed appliances or other dangerous conditions.
  • If your appliances have been flooded or get wet, have them checked and serviced before using again.
  • Always transport and store cylinders in a secure, upright position. Never leave a cylinder in a vehicle or trunk, as heat may cause the pressure relief valve to release propane.
  • Make sure only approved appliance connectors are used.

If You Move or Change Gas Appliances

ALWAYS CALL YOUR PROPANE SUPPLIER WHEN YOU NEED A GAS APPLIANCE CONNECTED OR DISCONNECTED.

It is for your safety that the gas system remain in a safe condition at all times. Should the gas system develop a leak (or if a gas line or shut off valve remains unplugged), a fire, explosion or serious injury could result.
